The .deb should have installed Java 8 and JavaFX 8 for you. I didn't think about how to force Negatron to use this version when you have several versions of Java on your machine. What is the error you got? Can you give more details or a screenshot? I've never seen this kind of errors.
I think it's raised by another program... as you won't ever see any error being raised by Media Preview. Maybe only when doing something in the configuration tool.
